One of our most popular requests is for private lessons which we offer throughout the week to personalize your lessons to you. We work with groups or individuals. We have also customized lessons to fit those with physical limitation as we believe everyone should be able to protect themselves. Contact us and let us know how we can accommodate!

Female Warrior's Club

Calling all females who have a desire to learn and study the martial arts for self-protection and empowerment. No prior martial arts experience is needed. Class led by Sensei Karissa M. Salazar.

Saturdays 10:00am to 11:00am.


Fall Hot Cider Yoga


Reset your mind & body through simple yet very healing movements and stretches through the fall season served with hot mulled cider enriched with natural and healthy spices! Private yoga sessions are also available this time of year.

Saturdays 1:00pm to 2:00pm.


Private Gym

Workout in the privacy of your own gym!! All Martial Arts Members get a free membership to use the gym. Contact us to schedule your own workout time!! Need a personal trainer? We've got those too!

Class Opportunities

Monday Hardening & Body Conditioning


 Hardening the bones, building calluses, growing tolerance, gaining strength, traditional training and more! 

Mondays at 6:00pm to 6:30pm

Monday Evening Toide


Once only taught to kings, Toide combines Aikido, wrist-locks and hard fist techniques used to disable an opponent.  It is one of the more advanced artforms and is taught by the highest ranked Toide martial artist in our area, Shihan Matthew S. Smith.  

Mondays at 7:00pm to 8:30pm

Tuesday Toho (Sword)


Learn the art of the Sword.  The beautiful yet deadly movements of Toho are taught Tuesday evenings from 6:00pm to 7:00pm.

Tuesday & Thursday Meditative Kata


Meditation through bovement and breath.  Bring balance to your mind and body to start your day out right.

Tuesdays and Thursdays 10:00am to 11:00pm.

Wednesday Shorin-Ryu Karate


Join us Wednesday evenings with Shihan Matthew S. Smith and Sensei Billy Bickerstaff as they lead the class through traditional Okinawan kata and proper forms that are a foundational part of many other artforms. Increase your strength both in body and in mind.

Wednesdays at 7:00pm to 8:30pm

Thursday Goshinjutsu Self-Defense


Join us Thursday evenings for techniques that originated in Okinawa designed to protect you and your loved ones in real-life situations.  Shihan Matthew S. Smith leads this class combining the different martial arts forms into one that results in learning the real-world practical applications of the techniques. This class increases your reflex time, hand-eye coordination and sparring abilities.

Thursdays at 7:00pm to 8:30pm

Friday Jujutsu & Kempo


Enjoy a Friday night out at the dojo with Sensei Billy Bickerstaff and his 10 years of expertise as a Juko-Kai Martial Artist!  Learn how to use another’s momentum to your advantage along with different combinations of efficient and effective blocks and strikes that could save your life.

Fridays at 7:00pm to 8:30pm.

Saturday Yoga Unwind


Release all of your stress from the week by getting your body moving with easy yoga healthy for anyone and everyone!  Yoga provides so many health and healing benefits to the body!  Join us in the journey to increase your balance, flexibility and strength. Lead by Sensei Karissa M. Salazar.

Saturdays at 1:00pm to 2:00pm.

Youth & Homeschool Martial Arts


Give your children the opportunity of a lifetime with martial arts in their curriculum great for discipline, control, confidence, respect, protection from bullying and so much more. Youth classes are held by Shihan Matthew S. Smith on Mondays at 10:00am to 10:45am and Wednesdays at 6:00pm to 6:45pm.

Friday Powerful & Effective Striking


Learn how to increase your striking abilities!  This class focuses on making your punches, kicks and strikes extremely powerful!  Lead by Shihan Matthew S. Smith.

Fridays 6:00pm to 6:30pm.

About Us

Shihan Matthew S. Smith


Shihan Matthew S. Smith is the Headmaster of Juko-Ryu Toide & Martial Arts Center and has been studying Martial Arts and body mechanics since he was 7 years old. He has experience in several art forms such as TeaKwonDo, Wing Chun and many more. 

Shihan Smith joined Juko-Kai International in 2013, was certified to instruct by the Soke (Head founder) of Juko-Kai and holds ranks in several of the Juko-Kai arts. His highest ranks include a 5th degree black belt in Juko-Ryu Toide & 2nd degree black belt in Goshinjutsu.

Sensei Karissa M. Salazar


 Sensei Karissa M. Salazar is the Sensei and Sempai of Juko-Ryu Toide & Martial Arts Center.  She holds 3rd Dan rank in Toide as well as ranks in Goshinjutsu, Shorin-Ryu Karate and Weaponry and is the highest ranking female in Traditional Asian Recognized Combat Martial Arts in the Midwest.

Sensei Salazar incorporates health and physical wellness into her instruction as she is also a Licensed Dental Hygienist and Certified Yoga Instructor.
